Watershed Conditions Statement - Water Safety Peterborough-Bancroft District - Friday March 13, 2026
The Ministry of Natural Resources– Peterborough Bancroft District is advising area residents that a Watershed Conditions Statement - Water Safety is in effect in the District until Friday, March 20, 2026.
Residents in the Peterborough Bancroft District are advised to remain aware of current watershed conditions. Water levels in local lakes and rivers are elevated due to the snowmelt and rainfall experienced last week.
Residents are reminded to keep a close watch on weather conditions, regularly check for updated messages, and exercise caution near fast moving rivers and streams.
The Ministry advises residents to exercise extreme caution concerning ice conditions. No ice is safe ice.
The Ministry is closely monitoring the weather and evolving watershed conditions. Further updates will be issued as appropriate.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Description of Weather System
Warm weather and rainfall over the past week contributed to increased runoff, which has resulted in elevated water levels in lakes and rivers.
Below freezing temperatures are forecasted overnight for the next 14 days.
Description of Current Conditions
Water levels in most lakes and rivers are typical for this time of year. Forecasted cold temperatures will allow runoff to continue moving through the system.
At this time, water levels are expected to remain within a similar range to current conditions over the next 7 days.
DEFINITIONS
• WATERSHED CONDITIONS STATEMENT – WATER SAFETY: indicates that high flows, melting ice or other factors could be dangerous for such users as boaters, anglers and swimmers but flooding is not expected.
