Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) - HBM Township Water Discolouration Update – Sept. 16, 2025

Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) - HBM Township Water Discolouration Update – Sept. 16, 2025
The Municipality of HBM is currently experiencing discoloured water in parts of the distribution system due to naturally occurring Manganese in our source water from Well 3. This mineral reacts with chlorine used in the treatment process, causing temporary discolouration. Well 3 is a backup well that has been put online due to dry weather/drought. Wells 1 & 4 are the duty wells but are experiencing low aquifer levels.
✅ Important to Know:
• Manganese is a naturally present mineral in air, water, and soil.
• While the water may appear unpleasant, it is safe to drink and use.
• Regular testing is conducted by the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) and the water remains in full compliance with provincial standards.
💧 What’s Being Done:
• OCWA will continue to run the Duty Wells 1 & 4 and monitor the aquifer levels.
• Running Wells 1 & 4 and Well 3 simultaneously will help to reduce mineral deposits and improve water clarity.
• Well 3 will be used until aquifer levels at Wells 1 & 4 rise.
🔍 Ongoing Monitoring: We continue to monitor and sample the water. If anything changes, residents will be notified immediately.
Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work to improve water quality for everyone in Havelock.
