Ministry of Natural Resources - Bulletin - Flood Warning - April 14, 2026

Flood Warning - Peterborough Bancroft District - April 14, 2026

The Ministry of Natural Resources – Peterborough Bancroft District is advising area
residents that a Flood Warning is in effect in the District until Wednesday, April 22, 2026
Residents in the Peterborough Bancroft District area are advised to be aware of current
watershed conditions. Water levels in lakes and rivers are currently increasing and will
continue to rise over the next week.

Higher than normal water flow conditions are occurring throughout the area due to recent
rainfall and snowmelt. Slippery stream banks and fast flowing, cold water will create
hazardous conditions around all water bodies. Residents are reminded to keep a close
watch on weather conditions, regularly check for updated messages, exercise caution near
fast-moving rivers and streams and maintain close supervision of children and pets.

Residents who have been affected by high water and flow conditions in the past should
continue to take necessary action to protect/secure any vulnerable property in proximity to
rivers and lakes and closely monitor developing conditions.

The Ministry is closely monitoring the weather and evolving watershed conditions. Further
updates will be issued as appropriate.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Description of Weather System

Approximately 61 mm of precipitation has been forecasted over the next five days, with
continued warm temperatures and additional rainfall expected in the 14‑day outlook.

Daytime highs over the next four days are expected to range from 15 °C to 20 °C, with
overnight lows between 4 °C and 12 °C.

Temperatures are forecasted to cool again around April 19; however, by that time the
remaining snowpack is expected to be greatly reduced or fully depleted.

Description of Current Conditions

Recent rainfall has significantly reduced the amount of snow remaining on the ground. Forecasted rainfall is expected to rapidly melt the remaining snowpack, resulting in increased runoff.

Water levels in most lakes and rivers began a sustained rise on April 12 and are expected to continue increasing over the coming week due to ongoing runoff contributions to the watercourse systems.

DEFINITION

FLOOD WARNING: flooding is imminent or occurring within specific watercourses and municipalities.
