March 2, 2026 – Mayor’s Statement on The Alto High Speed Rail Project

The proposed Alto High Speed Rail project has raised many questions and concerns for the residents of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen. While this is a Federal Government initiative, members of Council have attended the public information sessions and will continue to ask questions and gather as much information as possible.

This matter will be discussed at the Open Session Council Meeting being held tomorrow, March 3, 2026, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Information has been posted to the Township website www.hbmtwp.ca as part of the agenda package.

There are many unknowns at this stage in the process. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the public consultation process, either in person or online, and make your voice heard. Information regarding the public consultation process can be found at the website  Alto | Shaping Canada’s Future With a High-Speed Train

Please know that the Council of the Township of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen shares your concerns regarding this project and will continue to keep you informed as we consider next steps in this process.

Jim Martin, Mayor
