High Temperatures and Poor Air Quality Today - July 15, 2026

To help residents combat the heat, HBM Township cooling centres are open today at both the Cordova Library and the Havelock Library. 

Hours of operation:

Cordova Library, located at 55 Alfred Street, from 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
Havelock Library, located at 13 Quebec Street, from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm.

An alternative option is a visit to the HBM Splash Pad, located at 39 George Street East, from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm. 

Being prepared for the heat:

•    Drink lots of water (avoid alcohol and caffeine).
•    Check regularly on children, neighbours, the elderly, persons with disabilities and chronic illnesses.
•    Stay in an air-conditioned place (if possible) and only go outdoors during the coolest part of the day
•    Limit outdoor exercise.
•    Avoid the sun by wearing loose-fitting clothing, hat and sunglasses and apply sunscreen 20 to 30 minutes before going outside.

Poor Air Quality tips:

•    Limit time outdoors. 
•    Consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor sports, activities and events.
•    Keep windows and doors closed as much as possible.
•    Check in on others who are in your care or live nearby who may be more likely to be impacted poor air quality.
