HBM Township Public Works Department – Spring Road Condition Update – April 17, 2026

HBM Township Public Works Department – Spring Road Condition Update – April 17, 2026

HBM Public Works Department is aware of the significant damage to gravel roads caused by the spring thaw and recent heavy rainfall. However, grading at this time would create deep ruts and extremely slippery surfaces - making roads more hazardous than the existing potholes.

When the road is soaked, grading moves mud around, creating a rough, uneven surface.

The road’s foundation can be damaged, leading to more potholes, washboarding, and longer-term issues.

Equipment can’t operate properly, and there’s a higher risk of getting stuck or leaving deep ruts that will need to be fixed later.

Even after a sunny day, it takes time for water to dry out of the road base and potholes before grading can begin safely..

Please be assured that grading will start as soon as conditions are suitable to do so.

Your patience is appreciated as staff work to maintain the gravel roads within the Township.

This work remains a top priority for the Public Works Department.

The grading work will apply to all HBM Township municipally maintained roadways and potholes will be filled where needed.

Every effort will be made to keep residents informed of any significant changes. We ask for your patience during the grading process.

Any concerns, please contact HBM Township Public Works Department at 705-778- 2481.
