George Street Reconstruction
The Township of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen and the County of Peterborough are beginning Phase 2 of the multi-year reconstruction of George Street (County Rd. 48) with work starting June 2026 and continuing through 2028.
This phase continues with critical upgrades such as new storm and sanitary sewers, watermain replacement, roadway resurfacing, and new sidewalks and curbs. Supporting safer travel and improved infrastructure for residents and businesses.
Phase 2 is funded in part by the Government of Ontario through the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund (HEWSF), a stream of the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program (MHIP). This investment of over $8 million will help enable new home development in the Township of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen.
Resulting from grant funding obtained from the Province of Ontario whereby the applicant is responsible for 27% of total eligible costs, The Township of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen cost share as it relates to construction costs and scope of works, shall be in the amount of $900,229.61 (including nonrefundable HST).
Residents can expect staged road closures and temporary delays, but access for pedestrians, businesses, and emergency services will be maintained.
