2025 HBM COMMUNITY RECOGNITION AWARDS
Program Overview
The Township of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen (HBM) holds Community Recognition Awards every two years to recognize and celebrate the success and achievements of HBM Township community members by nominating a deserving individual, business, organization, or group who have contributed to making HBM Township a great place to live, work, and conduct business.
Nomination Eligibility
Nominations will be accepted for any rate payer, resident, business, organization, or group residing within HBM Township who has raised the profile or made an exemplary contribution to the community over the preceding 24 months. The nominee shall not have received an HBM Township Recognition Award for a similar category within the last 10 years and shall not be a Committee of Council member.
Nomination Category and Description
- Sporting Excellence - Any team or individual who has won a provincial, national or international sporting event.
- Acts of Heroism - An individual who has displayed bravery in the face of personal risk, injury or death at an incident that took place either in Havelock-Belmont-Methuen or was to the benefit of a Havelock-Belmont-Methuen resident and which action did not occur while the individual was acting in his/her professional capacity while on duty.
- Business of the Year - Any new or established business within HBM Township who demonstrated excellence in their industry, exceptional product quality/service, and strong entrepreneurial spirit.
- Outstanding Youth of the Year - Any person aged 19 or younger who have demonstrated exceptional community involvement or volunteerism within HBM Township.
- Volunteer of the Year - Any individual who has demonstrated exemplary community involvement or volunteerism within Havelock-Belmont-Methuen (HBM) Township within last 24-months.
- Volunteer Group of the Year - Any group who has demonstrated exemplary community involvement or volunteerism within Havelock-Belmont-Methuen (HBM) Township within last 24-months.
- Community Leader of the Year - Any individual within HBM Township recognized for their community spirit, demonstrated leadership, and consistent service in the name of progress and benefit to community.
- Miz Watson Lifetime Achievement Award - Any individual within HBM Township recognized for their community spirit, demonstrated leadership, and lifetime service to others, in the name of progress and benefit to community.
Nomination Form
A paper-based nomination form is available at the Township office located at 1 Ottawa St E, Havelock. You can submit your nomination now by filling the Online Community Recognition Award form.
Approval Process
- Nominations will be accepted up to 4:30 pm on August 21, 2025.
- During the Regular Council meeting held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, the Council will review all nomination applications and select category award winners.
- Award recipients will be notified of their selection of a Community Recognition Award and will be invited to attend the awards ceremony to be held on Thursday, September 25 at 7:00 pm.
- Unsuccessful award nominees will be made aware of the Council’s decision and invited to attend the awards ceremony where their nomination and contribution to the community will be acknowledged by the Council.
- Following the above notifications, award winners will be announced externally through a Press Release, which will be sent to Representatives of the Media and a Public Notice posted to the Township’s website, social media accounts, and local bulletin boards.
Awards Night Ceremony
- Held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 7:00 pm at the Havelock Legion (8 Ottawa St W, Havelock).
- All community award winners and nominees will be invited to attend the awards ceremony. Award recipients will have the option of extending an event invitation to their guests, of up to a maximum of six guests (this is flexible). These attendees will have preferred seating.
- Award recipients will receive an official embossed Award Certificate signed by the mayor, as well as a commemorative plaque.
- Recipients and guests will be asked to attend the award ceremony no later than 6:40 pm and the ceremony will commence at 7:00 pm with live entertainment following the ceremony from 8:15 – 9:00 pm.
- The award ceremony is open to the community at large up to a capacity of 150 attendees.
